Hydration Score Assessment Framework

Hydration Score™ assessments are conducted according to a consistent evaluation framework and are based on declared ingredient and nutritional information.

Each beverage receives a Hydration Score™ out of 100 based on key formulation characteristics that influence hydration effectiveness.

Products are assessed under one of two frameworks depending on their intended use: Daily Hydration (for everyday hydration) or Performance Hydration (for sport and high-intensity use). This ensures each formulation is evaluated in the appropriate hydration context.

Products scoring 70 or above may be eligible for Hydration Score™ certification.

Assessment Categories

1. Electrolyte Profile

2. Sugar & Osmolality Balance

3. Electrolyte Concentration

4. Hydration-Supporting Ingredients

5. Hydration-Compatible Formulation

Electrolytes play an essential role in maintaining fluid balance in the body.

Hydration Score™ evaluates the presence and balance of key electrolytes including:

• Sodium

• Potassium

• Magnesium

• Calcium

• Chloride

Products containing a broader and more balanced electrolyte profile generally receive higher scores in this category.

Sugar content can influence hydration effectiveness.

Hydration Score™ evaluates the total sugar content of a beverage and how it may affect fluid absorption.

Products with lower sugar levels typically receive higher scores, while beverages with excessive sugar may receive reduced scores.

The concentration of electrolytes, particularly sodium, plays an important role in effective hydration.

Hydration Score™ evaluates whether electrolyte levels fall within ranges commonly associated with improved hydration performance.

Products with electrolyte concentrations aligned with hydration-supporting formulations receive higher scores.

Some ingredients may further support hydration performance.

Hydration Score™ considers the presence of certain functional ingredients commonly associated with hydration support.

Certain ingredients may influence hydration performance depending on context.

Hydration Score™ considers whether a formulation avoids ingredients commonly associated with reduced hydration efficiency, such as alcohol or excessive caffeine.

This category ensures the final score reflects not only what is included in a formulation, but also the absence of factors that may impact hydration balance.

Important Note

Hydration Score™ assessments are based on declared ingredient lists and nutritional information provided by the product label.

Hydration Score™ is a formulation assessment and does not measure physiological hydration outcomes or constitute medical advice or regulatory approval.
